Sindhi embroidery is one of the most distinctive and celebrated art forms of the Sindhi people. Characterised by intricate geometric patterns, vibrant colours, and meticulous needlework, Sindhi embroidery has been passed down through generations as a living expression of cultural identity.
Traditional Sindhi garments, particularly those for weddings and festivals, feature elaborate embroidered borders and panels. The craft uses silk and cotton threads, with motifs drawn from nature, geometry, and spiritual symbolism. The city of Jodhpur has been home to master craftspeople who have kept these traditions alive despite the displacement of Partition.
Historical Note
<p>The embroidery traditions of Sindh have roots in the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation, whose artisans demonstrated remarkable skill in textile work. After Partition in 1947, Sindhi craftspeople brought their techniques and designs to Rajasthan and other parts of India, where the traditions have continued to evolve while retaining their distinctive Sindhi character.</p>
